Two poles, two podiums and a race win in Magny-Cours Sprint weekend for 2 Seas Motorsport

A strong weekend in France for 2 Seas Motorsport, as the team took on the third Sprint race weekend of the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS campaign. Returning with an unchanged line-up from the recent Misano round, the #222 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Charles Dawson and Kiern Jewiss scored pole position and a double podium result. The #3 Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing entry continued with Dani Juncadella alongside Jules Gounon, due to Chris Lulham still in recovery from health issues, with the pair recording a lights to flag victory from pole position, followed by a top-7 finish to secure important points for the championship effort

Saturday's qualifying delivered a standout result for both sides of the garage, as Jules scored outright pole position around the Magny-Cours circuit. The result was a second successive pole position for the Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing crew. Equally impressive was the result for the #222, with Kiern at the wheel, which locked out the front row alongside his teammate, and took Bronze class pole position. The gap between the pair was just 0.166s.

Race 1 saw the pair lead from the front, and controlled the pace. Jules combined with Dani as the sunlight faded, converting pole position to a well-earned and popular race win. Kiern and Charles also delivered a strong performance, but an infringement during one of the later caution periods would result in a post-race penalty. The #222 crossed the line to take the win on track, ultimately finish on the third step of the podium.

With a strong Saturday result as a foundation, the team set about building on the momentum with Sunday’s qualifying. Dani secured a fourth row grid slot, while Charles saw his times deleted due to track limit infringements and would start from the back of the field. Despite the setback, the reigning British GT champion showed experience and a cool head as the lights went green. A typically chaotic start, as would be expected with 44 cars, didn’t phase either driver, and Charles quickly gained positions. Dani also looked to capitalise early, initially making up ground, but was pushed off line and recovered well back to his starting position. Charles had moved up to P7 in class within the opening 10 minutes before the first of several caution periods. An incident then brought a halt to proceedings as the race was red flagged ahead of the pit window opening, with Charles having climbed to P4.

On the restart, Dani opted for track position as the field started to pit, gaining further ground, while Charles handed over to Kiern. With Kiern and Jules in for the second stint, both continued to show solid pace to the end. At the line, the #3 scored a top-10 overall, P7 in class, to secure more important championship points. Post-race penalties worked in favour of the #222 and capped off a successful weekend, moving up to P2 in the standings, meaning a hattrick of podium finishes from three starts.

The team now shifts focus back to the domestic campaign with rounds 5 and 6 of the British GT championship, taking place 15-16 August. The GT World Challenge Europe calendar follows a fortnight later with the next Endurance event, 28-30 August, at the Nürburgring, Germany.
