Double podium and class victory as British delivers another action-packed Donington Park event

British GT arrived at Donington Park for the penultimate round of the season, with 2 Seas Motorsport running with changes to both line-ups. Reigning champion Charles Dawson returned for a second round of the year alongside Aaron Walker in a Silver Am pairing, while Chris Lulham looked to build further experience of the Mercedes-AMG GT3, partnering Kevin Tse in the #18 Contempo Concept Pro-Am entry. Both new arrivals wasted no time in making an impression, with Chris and Kevin taking a P2 finish, while Aaron and Charles secured the class victory and the final step on the overall podium.

Qualifying set the tone for what was to come, with strong performances across the two combined session from all four drivers. The standout, though, was Chris, who was quickest overall, against a much more experienced field. The result saw he and Kevin put the #18 Mercedes-AMG GT3 narrowly ahead of their teammates, lining up P6 and P7 for the two hour race.

The threat of rain that had loomed over the paddock on race day morning was realised just before the cars arrived on the grid, forcing a start on wet tyres. No further rain as the lights went out meant it was a case of when, not if, to switch to slicks. Charles and Kevin took the start and handled the tricky conditions well as others struggled for grip, with both cars gaining ground in the opening lap. Around the midpoint of the opening stint, a dry line began to form and the moment to change to the slick tyres was fast approaching. 2025 champion Charles was the first to roll the dice, and quick work by the pit crew was rewarded with jump up the order to P2, putting the #15 into clear air as the rest of the field reacted. Kevin pitted shortly after, also gaining ground, and ran P4.

A full course caution 15 minutes before the pit window brought the filed back together, and more quick work by the crews at the mandatory stops saw Aaron emerge in P2 overall, leading the Silver-Am class, while Chris made his British GT race debut from P4. Aaron was immediately into a battle to defend the class lead, while Chris proved to be one of the fastest on track, trading purple sectors and closing the gap to the leaders consistently each lap. A penalty for one of the leaders promoted Chris to the final podium position, and with just over 15 minutes remaining – and no team orders – he closed in on his teammate, making a calculated pass for second place into turn 1.

At the flag, 2 Seas Motorsport completed the strongest result of the season, with a double podium. Chris signed off his championship debut with the fastest lap of the race – adding to his fastest lap during qualifying – and the drive of the day, having closed a gap of more than 25 seconds to the race leader. Close behind them, Aaron and Charles secured a first Silver-Am class victory for the team. The double top-3 result moves the team up to fourth in the championship standings, with Aaron also sitting fourth in the Silver-Am Drivers’ standings.

The championship now heads to Brands Hatch for the season finale, 26-27 September.
